Valentine Heart Nail Art – No Strings Attached
Even though I took a break from blogging for a short while, the crafting never stops. I enjoy it too much! After the Christmas holiday season ended, my mind shifted into high gear anticipating the super fun Valentines holiday decor. I’m excited to jump back into blogging now that things have calmed down to a reasonable level, and excited to show you the fun things I’ve been playing with in the Craft Shack, like this fun Valentine Heart stringless nail art!

Have you ever started a project only to have it take a different turn than you originally intended? String art has been pretty big for awhile now, and rightfully so! I have seen some very beautiful ones! I love the look. This project was actually intended to be string art. I started it fully intending on completing it with the strings and everything. It didn’t turn out that way though!
I started with a board, stained in this pretty dark stain color (Kona by Rust-Oleum).
I drew my design onto the board. A Valentine Heart is the perfect symbol for the holiday! I just free handed two intersecting hearts onto the board, but if you want something more intricate you can always use graphite tracing paper to trace a printed design onto the board.
Then I started hammering in the nails.
The plan was to make a Valentine Heart string art. But once I got the nails in, I decided I would paint the nails to add a little bit of something extra. I used DecoArt Rose Gold Metallic Lustre wax right on the nails of one of the two hearts. I was surprised how well it worked on the metal, and pleased with my pretty rose gold nails! This was the first time I doubted my string art plan. I liked how the rose gold nails looked, just by themselves and I really liked them beside the plain steel nails.
I decided to continue forward with the string art anyway, but that didn’t feel right. I took all the strings back off. Isn’t it funny when projects get ideas of their own?
I left it as it was for almost an entire week before deciding that it just didn’t need the strings to be beautiful. Honestly, I love how simple and elegant it looks. Who knew nails could be so beautiful just by themselves? I used the Rose Gold Lustre again to paint the sides of the board. I love the rose gold next to the rich dark stain! I think they compliment each other beautifully.
Isn’t it pretty? I’m still planning to try string art someday soon. I’m working up a new sign for my kitchen right now. I had just intended to paint the sign, but maybe I will use that as an opportunity to try the strings instead.
