Shamrock Silhouette
I think there are two kinds of crafters. The ones who love glitter, and the ones who are wrong. Haha, ok so I can understand why someone might dislike glitter. Obviously, I am the first type though! I think there are a great many things in this life that could be improved by glitter. Everyone needs a little more sparkle in their life, right? The biggest problem with glitter though, is the mess. That is why I was so excited to play with a new (to me) product this week. My friends over at DecoArt sent me some fun paints to try. It’s called Glamour Dust Glitter Paint. With a name like that, how could it be bad? It wasn’t bad, it was awesome! All the benefits of glitter, the sparkle, the shine, with zero glitter mess! I decided to take these amazing paints and make a cute LUCKY Shamrock silhouette sign for St. Patrick’s Day!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Shamrock Silhouette:
- A board. I used a scrap piece of 1/4 inch plywood, about 16×16 in size.
- Glamour Dust Glitter Paint in Limelight, Emerald, and Gold Glitz.
- Americana Acrylic paint in Festive Green.
- Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Everlasting.
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Paper (standard copy paper is fine)
- Vinyl letters “LUCKY”
The first step is to sand and paint your board. Using the everlasting white chalky paint cover the entire board.
Once the paint is dry, sand and distress as desired. I added light distressing across my whole board.
Using your copy paper, cut out a heart shape and trace four hearts onto the board in a shamrock shape. Draw in a stem.
Paint your shamrock shape with the Festive Green Acrylic paint. This reduces the number of coats you need later with the Glitter paint.
When your base coat is dry, fill in your shamrock with Emerald Glamour Dust Glitter Paint. I did three coats. I just love how it shines!
Paint the stem with two coats of “Limelight” and one coat of “Emerald”
Add “Limelight” and “Gold Glitz” accents as desired.
Place vinyl LUCKY letters across the sign when the paint is completely dry.
A beautiful glittery, shimmery shamrock, without any glittery mess! WIN WIN! Once dry the glitter paint is permanent. it stays in place with no flaking and no mess.
