Sea Glass Mason Jar toothbrush holder
I recently redecorated the kids bathroom (Click the link and check it out) I used a bright nautical theme, and I love how it turned out. The tile mirror is still my favorite part! Today I made a cute beach sea glass toothbrush holder out of a mason jar to compliment the decor. It’s so easy to make glass look like sea glass! I’ll show you how you can do it too.
I always scuff up my jar a little with a fine grit sandpaper, but that step is optional. You can see the scratches through the dried glue when it’s finished and I like how it makes it look. It seems to give the glue a slightly better grasp on the surface of the glass too.
Then just paint the outside of the jar with the colored glue. It’s so simple! I put my hand inside the jar for full coverage. It looks neon green, and shiny right now, but I promise it will dry just right!
The jar is almost dry now, and you can already see that it’s looking like sea glass! It took my jar about 30 minutes to dry completely.
Now, you can stop right there, or you can embellish your jar any way you want! I turned my sea glass mason jar into a cute toothbrush holder! To do that, first I cut some chicken wire to fit inside the band. I used standard wire cutters.
Then just screw the band onto the jar to secure the chicken wire! So easy, and now you have a functional toothbrush holder, or cute sea glass flower vase. Because the glue paint is on the outside of the jar, the inside is water safe. The color will come off however if the outside of the jar gets submerged.
To further embellish my jar I took some mod podge and some pretty sand, and added a decorative ring of sand around the base of the jar.
I tied some Raffia ribbon around the lid, and secured it with hot glue to hold it in place.
And glued some awesome sea shells onto the top! Ready for the beach bathroom now!
