Metallic Wood Grain Vase with Cricut Adhesive Foil
I love my new Cricut Explore Air cutting machine. Cutting machines aren’t new, they’ve been around for years. The difference now days is that you don’t have to buy all the cartridges for some of them anymore (You can still buy cartridges, and it makes things even easier, but it’s not necessary.) My very favorite thing about these new cutting machines they are making now is that I can take any image from my computer and turn it into a cut file! I did just that with this wood grain picture. I took this graphic below with some Cricut Adhesive Foil and turned it into this awesome Metallic wood grain vase!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Metallic wood grain vase:
- Cricut Explore cutting machine
- Cricut Adhesive foil
- Glass Bottle or Vase
- Cricut assessories (Strong Grip cutting mat, portable trimmer, weeding tool)
- Cricut Transfer Tape
- Jute string
The first thing you’ll need to do is right click on the wood grain image above, and select “save image as…” Save it as a .jpg on your computer. Next, open the Cricut Design studio, and upload the image into the project to turn it into a cut file.
Measure your bottle or vase. You will need to know the circumference (distance around the bottle) and the height. Cut a piece of adhesive foil the right size. For example, my bottle was 6.5 inches around and 6 inches tall.
Press the metallic foil onto your Strong Grip cutting mat (the purple one!)
After you have all of that set up, send your design to the cutting machine and watch the magic! This is my very favorite part. I could watch this amazing little machine cut all day long!
When the Cricut is done cutting, remove it from the machine, and peel the adhesive foil off the cutting mat. Then use your handy little weeding tool to remove the pieces of the design you don’t want to keep. Isn’t that metallic foil so pretty?
Next, cut a piece of transfer tape to fit your metallic wood grain and press it down over the top shiny part of your project. Flip it over, and peel the paper backing off of the metallic foil, leaving only your design on the tape!
Wrap the metallic wood grain around the bottle, smooth it on and then peel off the transfer tape, leaving behind only the beautiful adhesive foil wood grain!
You can choose to leave it just like this, or you can go one step further like I did and wrap some natural jute string around the top of the bottle or vase.
I really love this pretty adhesive foil! It’s hard to really see just how beautiful and shiny it is from pictures.
People will never guess how easy it was to make! I love projects that can be completed start to finish in under an hour, don’t you?
