15 minute light switch cover with DecoArt Decoupage
We’ve slowly been working on our youngest daughters room. She is three years old and the spunkiest most adorable toddler you’ll ever meet. I’ve been trying to capture some of her amazing personality in the changes we are making to her room. Bright and Happy is the goal! While we’ve been working on some bigger projects for the room, sometimes the small things can make a big impact too! Like this cute, easy light switch cover upgrade.
Here’s what you’ll need to update your light switch cover:
- Americana Decou-Page Papers (I used the adorable Paisley Punch pack)
- Americana Decou-page Matte Glue
- Light Switch Cover
- scissors or xacto knife
- small paintbrush or small foam brush
- (Optional) Gem Embellishments
Pick your paper! Decoupage specific papers are really great because they are thinner than a regular paper, and more pliable. But they are thick enough that they are still easy to work with. I really loved this adorable flower paisley design on these papers, I thought it matched the cute fabric I’m using to make curtains, and also the fabric on the play kitchen in the room!
Place your light switch cover on the paper, and trace around the outside, slightly bigger than the plate cover. I traced the inside light switch hole as well.
Isn’t that paper really adorable?
Cut out the light switch cover along your lines. I used a Xacto knife to cut the small hole from the center.
Spread the matte Decou-Page glue on the face of the light switch cover. Line up your cut paper and press it down onto the plate.
Add a small amount of Decou-Page glue to the flaps of the paper and press them down onto the back of the plate so that the entire plate is covered.
Add another thin coat of Decou-Page glue onto the paper. This just adds an extra layer of protection!
For a little bit of extra fun, and glamour I added some acrylic gems. Just put a dot of decou-page glue onto the switch cover and put the gems down over it!
Now you have a super adorable, fun light switch cover and it only took 15 minutes! Install it back onto the light switch, and enjoy the fun little touch of spunk you’ve just added to the room! I love that there are so many papers to choose from. It’s such a fun, easy way to add a little something extra to any room!
You can see the Bright Green Big Girl bed we refinished for her room, including some information on that adorable flower nightlight, and the fun bright pink bedding here:
I turned her old cupboard into a play kitchen awhile back too. It fits perfectly in her room, and she plays with it almost every day.
Next I need to get some curtains hung, which will add even more fun bright flowery spunk! The curtains match the light switch cover too. I love it when things come together so well!
