A few months ago I bought a 3 lbs bag of Acrylic Ice Rock Crystal vase filler for $13. After sitting in the Craft Shack for months just waiting for the right idea inspiration finally struck. Sometimes I wish it didn’t take it so long haha. I showed you my beautiful budget DIY Ice Crystal Votive earlier this week.
Today I’m excited to share this fun Ice Crystal Valentine Heart with you!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Ice Crystal Valentine Heart Decor:
- Acrylic Ice Rock Crystal Vase Filler (this is the package I bought)
- Felt (I used red, and pink)
- Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue
- Scissors
step one:
Cut your felt into the size and shape you want to use. I used a heart shape template in red and pink felt. Perfect for Valentines day! You will need two identical pieces of felt per Ice Crystal heart.
Step two:
Use your hot glue gun to attach the Ice Crystal Rocks to the felt one by one. Fit them in like a puzzle, as close as you can. Cover the entire felt heart. Cover both of your identical felt heart shapes with rocks.
Step three:
Use hot glue to attach the two felt hearts together, back to back. Now you have one heart shape, with acrylic rocks on both sides. I did it in two separate pieces because it was easier to glue the rocks onto the flat felt each time. *Optional: If you want to hang your crystal heart, glue a ribbon loop between the two pieces of felt now.
Step four:
Glue additional Ice Crystal Rocks all the way around the edge of the heart shape. Once this step is done, you can’t see anymore that it was two different pieces hooked together, it just looks like one big Ice Crystal Valentines heart!
Alternatively, You could substitute cardboard for the felt, but I like the way the felt fibers look through the clear acrylic rocks. I don’t think paper would hold up well enough under all the hot glue, and the sometimes pointy acrylic rocks.
I only used a small amount of my 3lbs of rock for this project. I would estimate maybe $2 worth of rock and less than $1 in felt pieces. But the end result looks seriously high end! Isn’t it amazing?!
I’ve made a short video to show you the process, I hope you like it! Remember to share with your friends so they can make their own Ice Crystal Valentine Hearts!
Even after making the votive, and several Crystal Hearts I still have Ice Crystal Rocks left! I’m sure I will find another project for them eventually!
