Gold Foil Lovebird with DecoArt Decou-page papers
I don’t put out very many Valentine decorations most years. I only have a handful of them. This year I wanted to add a few more. My style has changed over the years and lately, I have been adding more metallics to my home decor. Especially around the holidays. I have this really great gold metallic decoupage paper from my friends at DecoArt that I’ve been itching to use, and I found the cutest little wood birds that I thought would be perfect for this pretty paper! This quick little gold foil lovebird only takes a few minutes to make too!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Gold Foil Love Bird:
- Americana Decou-Page Paper – Gold Trend
- Decou-Page Glue – Gloss
- Paintbrush
- Wood Bird Shape
- Paint
- Embellishments (I used small wood hearts)
Step one:
Paint your wood bird shape the color of your choosing. I painted my bird white. Allow the paint to dry completely. Sand the edges for a softer distressed look if you’d like.
Step two:
Lay your decou-page paper flat on a table surface with the design facing down. Place your wood bird shape on the paper and trace the outline of the bird. Cut out the shape.
Step three:
Spread a thin layer of Gloss Decou-Page glue on the wood bird shape. Place your paper bird cutout onto the glue and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Optional: Add a layer of gloss decou-page over the top of the paper (I did not add this additional layer). To avoid bubbles in your project, make sure the base glue layer is completely dry before adding a layer of glue over the top.
Step four:
Add any embellishments you’d like to your bird. I added a little wooden heart, painted red with a touch of Gold Glitz Glamour Dust on it. I also painted the edge of the bird base with the Gold Glitz glamour dust as well for some additional sparkle!
Optional: Turn your cute Gold Foil Lovebird into a photo holder by using a strong glue to attach a clothespin to the back side of your wood bird shape.
I love how my little gold foil lovebird looks with the crystal hearts I made last year. Check out the tutorial for those hearts by clicking the image below!
