Faux Leather Vase made with brown paper bags.
It’s so fun to take simple household items and turn them into something completely different. I’ll show you how to do it too with this faux leather vase. There are amazing creative people out there that take brown paper lunch sacks and turn them into beautiful flooring, or even counter tops. While that’s not my style on such a large scale, I do love the look of the brown paper bag used decoratively! I decided I would borrow the method, and give an old boring glass vase a little faux leather face lift. It was so easy! It came out looking just like leather!
You don’t need much. An old glass vase, brown paper bags, Mod Podge, and a brush! I will show you how I added stain to the vase, but anything other than these four basic materials is totally optional.
First you’ll want to tear your paper bag into more manageable sizes. Tear it up, crumple it up in your hands, smooth it back up and start sticking it to the glass with Mod Podge. Cover the entire outside of the Vase.
The crinkled brown paper adds a great texture to the vase!
Once your vase is completely covered, let it dry. You can leave it the natural brown paper bag color, and seal it with a coat of Mod Podge on the outside of the paper now, or you can do what I did and add a darker color and more texture!
I wanted a little darker color on my Vase. I used Minwax Gel Stain in Mahogany. (affiliate link)
Taking an old cloth rag, I just rubbed the stain over the brown paper bags! Use a little like in the picture above…
Or a lot! I wanted mine a darker color so I covered the entire vase in the stain. It reminds you of a piece of leather, doesn’t it?
I added some pretty white Magnolias to my vase. I love how it turned out!
Pin it if you love it! Thank you!
