If you’re like me, you have hundreds of little plastic Easter eggs around. Every year I swear I am not going to buy any next year. And every year I forget that I said that. We use them for Easter egg hunts, to fill in the kids Easter baskets, and as decorations around the home. This year I decided it was time to give a few of the old plastic eggs an upgrade! Today was also the perfect day to make Sugar Cookies! I’ll even share the amazing recipe!
I used a bunch of things I had on hand already, Eggs, Small acrylic gems, yarn, lace,
paper flowers and hot glue!
I love how the paper flowers turned out.
And the yarn looked amazing with some lace ribbon around the middle!
The acrylic gems took the longest. That’s a lot of little gems to glue on!
I found they looked better when I matched the gem color to the egg.
I cut some lace and glued it onto this cardboard egg leaving the egg
underneath natural. I love how it turned out. It’s very elegant.
After making pretty Easter eggs I really wanted Easter cookies to go with them! I have the best Sugar cookie recipe ever! My sister-in-law Aliese gave me this recipe a long time ago. I’ve tried lots of different recipes since, and I always always come back to this one! None come close!
(And the Glaze icing I use with it)
Ingredients:
1 cup butter (slightly cooler than room temperature)
2 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 cups flour
Directions:
*Cream together butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and sour cream until smooth.
*Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
*Add dry ingredients to butter mixture 1/2 cup at a time until fully mixed.
*Chill dough for 1-3 hours.
*Roll out dough and cut
*Bake at 400° F for 8 minutes
*cool and frost
Sugar Cookie Glaze
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 1/2 tablespoons milk (more or less as needed)
Directions:
*Mix sugar, corn syrup and milk.
*Test for smoothness and add more milk 1/2 teaspoon at a time if needed.
*Optional – add food coloring before any extra milk is added
*Frost cooled cookies. For neater lines, pipe an outline and let the glaze dry before filling in the rest of the cookie.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
