A few months ago I bought a 3 lbs bag of Acrylic Ice Rock Crystal vase filler. The entire 3lb bag was only $13. The rocks were a lot prettier than I’d hoped for, they sparkle and they look just like real ice! They are just light weight acrylic plastic rocks. I wanted to put a few in some vases I had, but I planned to use the rest in a project or two. I just wasn’t sure what project. The rocks sat on my work surface in the Craft Shack for months. I’d stare at them and try to think of a way I could use them. My creative juices have been a little bit low for the last month or so, sadly.
Wouldn’t you know it, all at once the ideas for the rocks started flooding in! I have two fun ideas to show you, so far (those 3 lbs of rocks are going to go a long way). I’m so excited with how this Ice Crystal Votive has turned out! And it’s so easy!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Ice Crystal Votive:
- Acrylic Ice Rock Crystal Vase Filler
- E6000 Glue (a super strong glue that adheres well to smooth glass surfaces and dries clear)
- Glass Votive or Vase (I bought mine at the dollar store, but you can find similar ones here)
- LED Votive Candle (Sometimes you can find these at the dollar store too!)
First make sure your glass votive or bowl is clean and dry. Add a small drop of E6000 Glue directly to the glass and place an acrylic rock on the glue.
Repeat this step until the entire glass votive is covered (except the bottom, so it will sit flat). The E6000 Glue takes a little bit of time to cure, so you may need to hold some of the rocks in place until they feel set at the beginning. Once you have several rows of rocks in place you won’t need to hold them as long to secure them.
I completed this project over two separate days. After filling up half of the votive, I let the glue cure overnight, and then I did the second half the next day. The cured rocks didn’t move around when I needed to lay the votive on them to glue the other side.
The pictures don’t do it justice, the Ice Crystal Rocks really sparkle. They look like actual pieces of Ice!
I tried to find a comparable votive for a comparable price online. I couldn’t do it. It looks like it should cost $40 like this pair of crystal ice votives, except it only cost about $5 to make! And it’s even prettier in the dark with a votive (LED) candle in it!
I can’t wait to show you the other fun project I made with these pretty Acrylic Ice Crystal Vase Fillers! You can subscribe by email with the link on the right side of the page to make sure you don’t miss it!
